English Project

I want to start by saying that I have been working more hours than usual and since something had to be neglected, it was this blog and not my assignments.

I am really glad that I stuck with my English class. The first week or two, I was extremely frustrated because I could have tested out of the class had I been given the opportunity. I went so far as to talk to the instructor about it and her reply made me step back and reevaluate things.

I really have it good in this class. If I am short on time, I can just skim through the weekly textbook reading assignments. The sentence workshops take all of five or ten minutes to complete. Reading the essay and answering the questions about it might take me forty-five minutes. The most time consuming part is interacting with the other students and the instructor.

The best part of the class is the final project, a freelancing proposal for a company of our own choosing. We started working on it last week when we were given two assignments for the freelancing proposal. First, we had to create an annotated bibliography that contained links to various web sites that had information about the company we had chosen. Second, we were given an assignment to write two paragraphs. In the first paragraph we were told to describe the company. For the second paragraph, we needed to describe what we thought the company needed; it was to be the beginning of our proposal.

This week we are continuing our project by adding two more paragraphs. The first paragraph should talk about what we have to offer and our vision for the project. The second paragraph should cover how we want to handle the project as well as listing anything that we will need to complete the project.

For my company, I chose the Fort Worth Zoo. I love the zoo and the Fort Worth Zoo in particular. Also, it is conveniently located and I will have no trouble getting some "sample photographs" if needed for the project.

I have always thought the Fort Worth Zoo's web site needed more photographs. Then there is the size; if you are browsing their site at a decent resolution, all of the photos are pretty small. My proposal is that they should have all new pictures taken. The new photos could then be used on the web site, sent to educational institutions with additional information about the animals pictured, or even sold as prints to raise extra money (the Fort Worth Zoo is a non-profit organization run by the Fort Worth Zoological Association).

This week I will start by explaining my love of nature in general, exotic animals, zoos in general, and this zoo in particular. Next I will describe my vision with details about my gear as appropriate. I will then follow up with how much time and what resources I will need from the zoo in order to complete this project.

  1. I actually left out the first part from this week's assignment, it mentions nothing about my love of nature et al.
